TCHJ > Jewish Education
At present our Education Program has three main components: children's
education; Bar and Bat Mitzvah preparation; and adult education.
The Bar/Bat Mitzvah program is a nine-month course of study, consisting
of two meetings per month, with each meeting lasting two hours.
The curriculum is based on that of the national Congregation for Humanistic
Judaism, with the incorporation of other material dealing with Jewish
history, ethics, holidays and important personalities.
The Jewish Culture Class for Children ("JC cubed") provides children
with structured activities dealing with Jewish
holidays while their parents are attending presentations by
speakers or some other educational component of our semi-monthly
celebrations. We look forward to a more extensive and structured
program for children this fall.
The Education Committee will also provide an educational component,
usually dealing with the specific Jewish holiday that corresponds
to date, for meetings that do not feature a speaker. Thus we had
a brief talk about Hannukah
in December; about Tu
Bishevat in January; Purim
in February, and so on.
We consider our Education Program to be a "work in progress" and,
therefore, welcome suggestions from our members.
